WHO WE NEED
We are seeking a Retail Store Sales Representative to join our ROM Retail team. In this role, you will play a key part in creating a memorable shopping experience for our visitors, members, and guests, driving sales, promoting ROM products, and maintaining a welcoming, polished retail environment.
The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, sales-driven, and results-oriented. You are service-oriented and passionate about culture, the arts, natural history, and science. You bring a proactive, energetic approach, feel confident approaching guests to build connections and make product recommendations, and take pride in keeping the retail space clean, organized, and visually appealing.
You will represent ROM’s brand through warm, engaging interactions that connect our products and exhibitions to the stories of humanity. HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT
Provide outstanding customer service by assisting visitors, members, and shoppers in selecting products and completing purchases accurately and efficiently.
Actively engage guests, initiate conversations, and recommend products to drive sales.
Communicate knowledgeably about ROM retail products, museum galleries, and exhibitions, helping visitors connect with the ROM experience.
Promote ROM memberships, seasonal products, and special merchandise collections to increase sales and guest engagement.
Welcome and assist visitors in managing store flow, including during peak periods, to ensure a positive, organized shopping environment.
Maintain a clean, tidy, and visually appealing sales floor, ensuring merchandise is neatly presented and store standards are consistently upheld.
Package products safely and ensure all transactions are handled professionally and accurately.
Participate in regular retail, sales technique, and customer service training sessions and team meetings.
Report product shortages or customer concerns to the Assistant Manager promptly for resolution.
Support online order fulfillment by preparing merchandise and assisting guests with seamless in-store pick-up of e-commerce orders.
Demonstrate personal initiative, reliability, and a goal-oriented mindset.
WHAT YOU BRING
High school diploma or equivalent required; certification in retail, hospitality, tourism, or customer service is an asset.
Minimum one (1) year of experience in retail, hospitality, tourism, or customer service.
Proven ability to meet sales goals or actively promote products/services; confident engaging guests and recommending purchases.
Strong attention to detail in handling transactions, stocking merchandise, and upholding store visual and cleanliness standards.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a passion for creating welcoming and inclusive guest experiences.
Ability to handle customer inquiries and resolve issues tactfully and diplomatically.
Comfort working in high-traffic, fast-paced environments, with the energy and stamina to be on your feet and actively assist visitors throughout your shift.
Flexible availability, including weekends, holidays, and occasional evenings.
Ability to prioritize scheduled shifts at the Museum (up to 24 hours per week) and reliably commit to regular availability during ROM operating hours, including weekends, holidays, and peak visitation periods.
Team-oriented mindset with enthusiasm for representing ROM’s mission and brand.
Pride in maintaining a clean, organized workspace and high attention to detail.
Proficiency in English; additional language skills, especially French, are an asset.
