Primary Focus
Health care leaders in Canada trust CDA-AMC for evidence on prescription drugs. The Manager, Pharmaceutical Reviews will be responsible for the overall leadership and operational management of a multidisciplinary team that delivers comprehensive assessments to support timely health care decision-making at federal, provincial (except for Quebec), and territorial levels in Canada.
What do the daily responsibilities look like?
On any given day, the Manager, Pharmaceutical Reviews will:
implement program policies and procedures to ensure the effective, high-quality delivery of CDA-AMC reviews of pharmaceuticals
be responsible for the final review and sign-off of CDA-AMC pharmaceutical reports for Director approval before they are released to the client or public
oversee, provide management guidance to, and assess the specific and team performance of Senior Pharmaceutical Review Officers and Pharmaceutical Research Assistants, ensuring their compliance with CDA-AMC systems, policies, and procedures
be responsible for onboarding new employees, developing employees, and promoting evidence-based practices, research, education, and training
ensure alignment and achievement of work priorities, including determining the allocation of staff skills and resourcing of reviews based on report requirements and complexity, to meet service delivery and scheduling time limits
communicate job expectations and plan, monitor, audit, and appraise productivity and job results
provide operational leadership in the safe, effective, and efficient delivery of continuous improvement initiatives
evaluate current practices and program outcomes and lead quality improvement initiatives based on work priorities, directorate strategy, and goals
attend and/or lead relevant internal and external meetings to maintain awareness of and contribute to project deliverables
work collaboratively with other directorates and/or interested parties to promote CDA-AMC products and high-quality standards.
Is this the right role for you?
The Manager, Pharmaceutical Reviews will likely have:
a postgraduate degree in a health-related discipline plus experience providing leadership to a team using effective management techniques (i.e., coaching, mentoring, skill and leadership development, decision-making, coalition building, performance management)
broad experience with and a solid understanding of research methods, systematic reviews, pharmaceutical appraisals, development and application of health technology assessments, the Canadian health care system, relevant legislation and regulations, and decision-making processes
an achievement-oriented approach with a demonstrated ability to think strategically and understand an organization’s long-term strategy and vision
the ability to deliver inspirational leadership; energize and create a sense of direction and purpose for staff; and provide momentum for change and support in complex and demanding situations
the ability to take an innovative and inventive approach to looking at organizational priorities and opportunities, take responsible risks, and provide drive for results and efficiency.
