Why this role is important? Reporting directly to the Director Product Development & Strategy, the Senior Manager, Thoughtful Choices, ESG & Quo Beauty Strategic Initiatives is responsible for leading the strategic direction and management of the Thoughtful Choices program for Shoppers Drug Mart, along with enterprise sustainability and ESG (Environment, Social & Governance) initiatives specifically for the Beauty and Front of Store categories. This role involves developing and implementing comprehensive strategies for evaluating and tracking products that qualify for the Thoughtful Choices program, while also measuring and tracking progress against enterprise sustainability and ESG initiatives. The Senior Manager will also be responsible for contributing to the overall strategic direction and product development of Control Brand Beauty, with a particular focus on driving Quo Beauty strategic initiatives to amplify the brand through accessible merchandising and championing the brand. Key Responsibilities: Thoughtful Choices Program Leadership: Lead the strategic direction and management of the Thoughtful Choices program for Shoppers Drug Mart, researching, recommending, and executing the introduction of new innovative concepts for the program. Oversee the planning, coordination, and evaluation of product submissions against Thoughtful Choices criteria. ESG Strategy & Implementation: Develop and implement comprehensive strategies for ESG initiatives within Beauty & HBA, aligning with the organization's overall business objectives and sustainability goals. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define key goals, objectives, and KPIs, ensuring alignment with broader business goals. Control Brand Beauty Strategy & Product Development: Contribute to the development and execution of the overall strategic direction for Control Brand Beauty, ensuring alignment with market trends, consumer insights, and the company's sustainability goals. For designated product categories, leads the creation and continuous enhancement of new and existing products to ensure compliance with internal quality standards, regulatory requirements, as well as artwork, copy, and packaging specifications—aligning consistently with brand standards. Quo Beauty Strategic Initiatives: Drive Quo Beauty strategic initiatives to amplify the brand through two main pillars: accessible merchandising and championing the brand. This includes building engagement with in-store teams, facilitating ongoing two-way communication to improve customer experience, and enhancing Quo Beauty product development to ensure Quo Beauty is meeting customer needs. Sustainability & Packaging Initiatives: Lead enterprise sustainable packaging initiatives for Control Brand Beauty products, including working with vendor partners to identify opportunities, execute, and track packaging changes across the portfolio to meet recyclability requirements. Measure and track progress against enterprise sustainability and ESG initiatives within the Beauty and HBA categories. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align Thoughtful Choices, ESG, and Control Brand Beauty strategies with overall business objectives. Work closely with the Product Development Manager, Control Brand Beauty, to facilitate and track CB Beauty Thoughtful Choices, PETA / Cruelty-Free, Cosmetic Notification, and Factory Audit requirements. Vendor & Stakeholder Management: Develop and maintain strong working relationships with vendors to ensure optimal program representation and alignment with strategic objectives. Coordinate regular internal and vendor partner meetings and manage timelines for program execution. Regularly liaise with the ESR, Legal, and Internal Audit teams to ensure criteria and timelines are being met for all programs. Market Analysis & Trend Forecasting: Conduct in-depth market analysis and trend forecasting to identify opportunities for growth and innovation within the Beauty and HBA categories, with a particular focus on sustainability, ethical sourcing, and Quo Beauty brand development. Keep abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitive landscapes to advise on business strategies. Governance & Reporting: Support the governance model of annual and multi-year plans, including measures of success to monitor progress against key critical initiatives related to Thoughtful Choices, ESG, and Control Brand Beauty. Develop materials for executive-level updates regarding key critical initiatives as required. Brand Strategy Consultation: Consult with brand owners on brand strategies related to sustainability, ethical considerations, Quo Beauty brand development, and overall market positioning within the Beauty and HBA categories. Skills and Experience: Deep understanding of current clean beauty, cosmetics, and personal care product and packaging trends. Advanced knowledge of beauty marketing, including social and digital media, merchandising practices, and procedures, with a specific focus on brand building and engagement. Proven experience in developing and implementing marketing strategies, particularly within the Beauty, CPG or consulting sectors. Ability to interpret sophisticated data and insights to drive strategic decision-making related to sustainability, ethical sourcing, Quo Beauty brand development, and overall brand strategy. Exceptional analytical and timeline management skills. Ability to set and prioritize work with varying exceptions. Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and lead multiple projects simultaneously within tight deadlines. Exceptional collaborative decision-making skills to achieve specific organizational objectives. Communicates with clarity, verbally and in one-on-one or group situations. Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to effectively articulate sophisticated ideas and influence partners at all levels of the organization. Provides innovative solutions by using imaginative approaches where constructive thinking and innovation are required. Ability to apply concepts and theories to improve and innovate product packaging, overall brand strategy, and in-store engagement. Adaptable to set and prioritize work with varying exceptions. Able to adapt and work with diverse personalities and styles. Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are required in dealing with colleagues in everyday working relationships. Advanced computer skills to produce effective reports, documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. Education & Job Knowledge: Post-secondary education equivalent to a university degree in Business, Engineering, Chemistry, Product Design, Marketing or other related field. Experience: 5+ years in product management or equivalent experience, preferably in the beauty & personal care industry, with a significant focus on sustainability, ethical sourcing, strategic brand management, and driving brand engagement initiatives.
