This posting is for one hourly position working 12 – 15 hours per week
Strathcona County’s Utilities department is seeking a Waste Diversion Program Assistant to support the operations of the HodgePodge Lodge. In this role, you will take a lead position at the Lodge, welcoming and assisting visitors, coordinating day-to-day activities, and collaborating with volunteers to ensure a positive and organized experience for all.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide assistance to residents visiting the lodge, accept or deny donations, answer questions and handle escalated issues that arise
Organize, clean, and purge the shelves within the Lodge
Help execute special events at the Lodge like school tours and public events
Provide orientation, guidance, and support to volunteers; ensure daily tasks are completed; foster a positive and engaging atmosphere; and manage feedback, references, and hour sign-off
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills:
High school diploma with related experience engaging groups of people and interacting with the public
Knowledge of Strathcona County’s HodgePodge Lodge and an understanding of its purpose and contribution to the community are considered an asset
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (outgoing and interactive approach) with the ability to engage and communicate with the public in a positive manner
Ability to work independently, multi-task and problem solve
Effective time management skills with the ability to work under time constraints
Conditions of Employment:
Submission of a Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check
Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time[EW1]
Willingness to work evenings and weekends, ability to work Friday 12:00 pm – 6:15 pm and Saturday 10:00 am - 6:15 pm, with the possibility of extending to Tuesdays 12:00 pm – 6:15 pm in the spring
