In our wellness centers, the Fitness Technician II’s monitor the wellness areas while demonstrating proper exercise form and equipment usage, as well as providing leadership and mentorship to the Fitness Technician I’s. Key Responsibilities:
Provide support and mentorship to the Fitness Technician I’s on advanced exercise techniques and equipment usage for guests
Actively engaging and greet guests as they come through the wellness centre to create a comfortable environment
Provide and educate guests on all available options, spontaneous use services such as Wellness Centre orientations and collect guest feedback/suggestions
Provide support to supervisors by leading and developing; large scale lifestyle change programs, orientation programs, staff workshops and health related sessions
Provide daily operational support to supervisors
Research market trends, new equipment and other regional wellness facilities for best practices strategies
Circulate the Wellness Centre to maintain cleanliness, organization, and conduct basic safety inspections on all Wellness Centre equipment
Complete equipment cleaning, equipment safety checks and statistics of wellness spaces
Assist group fitness with class set ups (stereo, equipment, etc)
Run value added sessions and the Fit for the Future program
Perform first aid and/or CPR when required and make sure all preventable hazards in the Wellness Centre are taken care of
Promote community wellness events to encourage healthy active living by supporting wellness service initiatives in Strathcona County facilities
Qualifications and Skills
Advanced knowledge and instruction experience in exercise technique and fitness equipment usage
Strong leadership, critical thinking, verbal and written communication skills; including excellent customer service
Ability to deal effectively with diverse groups of individuals (guests and staff) and the ability to adapt to ever changing working conditions
Ability to work well as part of a large team, providing leadership as well as taking direction from different supervisors
Ability to provide creative solutions for guest customer service
Two years of experience working in wellness/fitness centres is required
2nd year enrollment in a Bachelor of Kinesiology or related degree, or completion of a 2-year Personal Fitness Trainer Diploma program is preferred
CSEP, AFLCA or equivalent certifications considered an asset
Standard First Aid, CPR (C), and AED required
Daytime availability is required and a willingness to work evenings, weekends, and irregular hours

Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
