Overall Job Responsibility:
Reporting to the IT Manager, the IT Coordinator plays a key role in supporting the technology needs of staff and contractors across the Health Unit. The ideal candidate is a self-directed team player with strong technical aptitude, excellent communication skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and evolving environment. This role requires someone who is passionate about helping others resolve technology challenges, demonstrates initiative, and can work productively with minimal supervision.
Leveraging your systems development experience, you will support departments across the organization by contributing to technology project planning, system enhancements, and digital process improvements. Working closely with the IT team, you will help coordinate database management, application development, system integrations, documentation, communication planning, and IT policy creation, all while promoting continuous quality improvement.
In this role, you will also provide leadership by supervising IT staff, developing program plans, and ensuring IT systems are effectively monitored and maintained. You will support change management, issue resolution, and risk management processes, and play a key role in evaluating, selecting, and recommending technology solutions and professional services that align with organizational needs and strategic goals.
Key areas of Responsibility include but are not limited to:
Leadership and Program Support
Support management by mentoring and guiding IT staff and serving as a resource for program-related inquiries.
Provide supervision and direction to IT team members to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with policies, procedures, and legislation.
Assist in developing and implementing IT program plans, operational procedures, documentation standards, and record management practices.
Review and evaluate program operations to ensure activities are efficient, evidence-based, and aligned with organizational goals.
Contribute to the drafting, updating, and implementation of IT policies, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Maintain current knowledge of emerging technologies, trends, and best practices in information technology.
Systems Administration & Technical Operations
Monitor and support IT infrastructure, including Windows desktops, servers, cloud-based services, networking equipment (firewalls, switches), virtualized environments, printers, phones (desk phones, softphones), smartphones, and other portable devices—both on-site and remotely.
Administer Active Directory, user accounts, and IT assets, ensuring secure and reliable access for staff.
Plan and manage the provisioning, deployment, and upgrades of computers, tablets, smartphones, and related software (e.g., Exchange, Office, antivirus).
Ensure seamless and secure connectivity between end-user devices and core systems such as file servers, email, conferencing platforms, and financial software.
Monitor and maintain backup and recovery processes, regularly verifying their effectiveness and assisting with disaster recovery planning.
Helpdesk & Service Coordination
Oversee helpdesk ticketing systems, identify trends, recommend improvements, and optimize workflows to improve service delivery.
Provide user training and onboarding for hardware, software, and cloud-based services.
Develop and maintain IT documentation, including procedures, configurations, installation guides, and rollback processes.
Asset & Vendor Management
Maintain a current inventory of hardware and software, manage licensing, and ensure proper disposal of electronic assets in accordance with policy.
Participate in the evaluation, procurement, and implementation of hardware, software, and professional services.
Liaise with internal teams, community partners, vendors, and stakeholders as required, and participate in internal and external committees or working groups.
Other
Support Emergency Operations as required.

Position Qualifications:
Education, Training, & Experience:
Post-Secondary education in computer science or related discipline, or the approved equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
CompTIA A+ or CompTIA Network+ preferred but not required
ITIL Foundation, or equivalent, preferred but not required
Strong skills supporting the Windows desktop operating system in a domain environment
Expertise in Microsoft Office 365
Expertise configuring and managing Apple iOS and Android devices
Expertise in programming languages (Visual Basic, C#, Javascript, PHP, CSS)
Expertise administering Microsoft Windows Server Environment
Expertise in Microsoft Active Directory and managing Group Policy
Experience supporting Exchange
Experience with M365 Admin Centre
Strong analysis, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Able to lift and manipulate server and desktop equipment
Other Requirements:
Significant experience with enterprise database solutions (Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server), including implementation, maintenance, performance tuning, and issue resolution.
Strong background in system administration across server environments such as Windows Server, Linux, VMware vSphere, XenServer, XCP-ng.
Hands-on experience working with enterprise infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, network-attached storage (NAS), UPS systems, and cloud or hybrid environments.
Knowledge of core network services and protocols such as DHCP, NAT, VPN, SSH, SNMP, SMTP, Active Directory/Windows Domain, SMB/CIFS, SQL databases, and logging systems.
Experience in backup and recovery strategies, data integrity, system security, and disaster recovery planning.
Proficiency in SQL for data analysis and report development.
Familiarity with programming languages and development platforms (e.g., PowerShell, Python, .NET, JavaScript, or similar).
Understanding of modern web technologies and cross-browser compatibility considerations.
Demonstrated experience supporting IT project implementation, including planning, execution, documentation, and evaluation.
Knowledge of project management methodologies and experience using project management tools across all stages of complex IT initiatives.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
Ability to assess technology requirements and provide solutions in a client/server and enterprise environment.
Ability to explain complex technical concepts in a clear and user-friendly manner to non-technical audiences.
Strong verbal and written communication skills; additional languages relevant to the communities served are considered an asset.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a diverse, multidisciplinary team environment.
Customer-focused approach with experience working with clients, vendors, and staff to address inquiries, requests, and service concerns.
High level of integrity, professionalism, and work ethic.
Proven ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and handle competing demands.
Adaptability and willingness to learn and adopt new technologies quickly.
Knowledge or experience in areas such as business process improvement, application development, document management, and end-user training is an asset.
Satisfactory police information search.
Immunizations and TB screening as per WECHU policies.
A valid Ontario Driver’s Licence, access to a reliable motor vehicle during working hours, as well as 2 million dollars in liability.
This position includes the option of hybrid work, whereby employees may be able to work remotely or from the office, based on departmental needs, job duties and personal work preferences. The successful candidate must reside within the province of Ontario and must be available to attend the office upon request.
