Reporting to the Manager, Geospatial and Drafting, the Supervisor, Drafting oversees the company’s computer-assisted drafting (CAD) operations, ensuring user needs are met and company standards for CAD data creation, maintenance, access, storage, and disposition are upheld.
Responsibilities:
Supervise drafting and administrative personnel, handling recruitment, performance management, and a range of human resource responsibilities.
Lead the evaluation and implementation of drafting initiatives designed to improve efficiency, modernize operations and deliver organizational value in support of company objectives.
Manage the Drafting team to ensure the timely and precise preparation and distribution of high-quality, professional deliverables within the company.
Administer third-party drafting contractors by monitoring quality control, forecasting needs, managing purchase orders, and assisting Procurement with Request for Quotation (RFQ) activities related to drafting services.
Interface with internal departments such as Engineering, Geospatial, Records Management, and Construction to provide support and gather feedback on drafting matters.
Liaise with cross-functional stakeholders to improve the quality and effectiveness of as-built documentation and associated processes.
Collaborate with internal operational and engineering teams to establish effective systems and standards.
Maintain up-to-date and accurate CAD drawings and models to support capital and operational programs, stakeholder requirements, and regulatory compliance.
Ensure projects adhere to company Safety, Environment, and Quality Assurance standards and system best practices.
Forecast and review the team’s Operations & Maintenance (O&M) budget.
Identify and coordinate training programs to maintain staff competency and expertise.
Conduct regular team meetings to address technical subjects and resolve drafting-related issues.
Stay informed of relevant government legislation, regulations, and rules, taking necessary actions to ensure procedural conformance.
Manage maintenance and inventory of printing supplies and equipment.
Maintain relationships with suppliers and industry organizations to exchange ideas, remain updated on technological advancements and standards, and produce cost-effective solutions.
Qualifications:
A diploma or degree in Drafting, Engineering, or a related discipline.
Candidates must demonstrate strong leadership skills with several years of progressively responsible experience.
Outstanding communication skills—written, verbal, presentation, interpersonal, and relationship-building—are essential.
The ability to assess technical needs and make well-informed decisions is required.
Applicants should excel at teamwork, motivation, leadership, and managing both professionals and administrative staff toward successful outcomes.
Capability to perform effectively under strict deadlines and time pressures is needed.
Familiarity or experience with pipeline or natural gas industries is highly desirable.
Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, design, or drafting for above-ground natural gas systems is considered an asset.
Practical experience with CAD software, such as MicroStation or AutoCAD, would be advantageous.
Completion of supervisory or management training courses is valued.
Strong project management abilities, including planning, cost estimation, scheduling, and financial control experience, are considered assets.
Knowledge or hands-on experience in Drafting, GIS, and Information Technology methods would be beneficial.
