POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Supervisor or the technical direction and guidance of the Leadhand, carries out preventive maintenance programs and performs maintenance and repair on buildings, building equipment, and grounds.
MAJOR TASKS:
Tests alarm systems and maintains records of same.
Maintains all mechanical equipment in buildings, including heating, air conditioning, plumbing and electrical systems and records of same.
Keeps walks, driveways and grounds clear of snow and refuse.
Performs daily check on heating and air conditioning equipment.
Maintains office furniture and equipment, as requested by Department.
Performs minor janitorial duties.
Maintains supply of cleaning and sanitary products for City facilities, janitorial staff and contracted cleaning services.
Performs structural repairs and painting.
Ensures the security of vacant buildings coming under the jurisdiction of the Facilities Services Section.
Responds to after-hours calls, as required.
Performs such other related duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
Secondary school graduation or Ontario secondary school diploma with year 4 general level mathematics; or
Equivalent combination of education and experience
Skills/Abilities:
Must possess skills in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and masonry, together with a working knowledge of building equipment and systems
Must be capable of reporting, both in writing and verbally, on building mechanical system conditions and/or problems
Must be capable of issuing and accurately comprehending written/oral information and instructions
Must be tactful and courteous with the public
Must be reliable and have the ability to work with minimum supervision
Must be proficient in the use of computers and current related software
Must possess and maintain a valid Class “G” Ontario Driver’s Licence, or equivalent
Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
Must be competent within of the Occupational Health & Safety Act
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Must remain a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
May be required to provide a successful driver’s record (uncertified)
Must be able to attain certification for alarm testing and inspection as required by the Fire Code
Must undergo a successful Criminal Records & Judicial Matters Check (CRJMC)
Must be physically able to perform the essential duties of the position
Must undergo a successful Thunder Bay Police Building Search and continue to remain eligible for clearance to Thunder Bay Police facilities
