As a Summer Camp Director, you’ll be responsible for the overall administration, program delivery and supervision of Town of Milton camp programs and inclusion services at multiple facilities, and ensure all activities are safe, fun and appropriate. This position reports to and works closely with the Coordinator, Recreation – Children & Youth. Major Job Responsibilities What will you be responsible for? Assisting the Recreation Coordinators with the hiring process for Summer Camp staff, delivery of staff trainings, and promotion of camps Ensuring all staff have current qualifications on file Developing and implementing the appropriate format for all camp programming, including themes, trips and guest visitors, ensuring program expenses are in line with the program budget Ongoing communication with parents/guardians, including timely follow up to all questions/concerns, and communicating all parental/public concerns and incidents to the Coordinator, Recreation Providing leadership and supervision to Camp Coordinators and Supervisors, coaching, developing and ensuring all performance expectations are met, completing and assisting with the delivery of mid-term and final performance evaluations within the deadlines as outlined Conducting regular staff meetings to ensure policies and procedures are communicated, quality standards are maintained, and feedback is obtained from staff Following department safety standards and evaluating situations for potential risks and proactively taking action to address such risks and reporting incident/concerns/actions or site damage to supervisor Maintaining program records, daily and/or session checklists, attendance, and stats collection Maintaining a high level of professionalism and handling sensitive situations with mature judgement Overseeing all aspects of the program setting – sign in/sign out, set–up/takedown, inventory of program supplies/equipment and maintaining program supplies/equipment for all sites Completing QUEST 2 evaluations, session summaries, inventory forms, equipment lists, parent information e-mails, program evaluations, etc. Assisting with payroll processes including building schedules in Workday Assisting the Behaviour Specialists with Behaviour Management tracking and tasks of personal care including changing, toileting and feeding as required (always in the presence of another staff person) Providing support during our extended care periods (7:30-8:30am & 4:30-5:30pm) and leading programs as required Education & Experience What will we need from you? Ability to work up to 24 hours per week, from February through June for pre-camp planning, and work a minimum of 9 weeks during July and August, at approximately 40 hours per week, up to a maximum of 44 hours. Actual hours may vary depending on program registration. Preference may be given to candidates who are available to complete pre-camp hours (February- June) during regular business hours. Planning and delivery of all mandatory, paid staff trainings that take place during evenings and weekends throughout May and June This position typically works full-day shifts, Monday to Friday, with standard hours of either 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Shift times may vary and can include extended care coverage, as outlined above Planning and delivery of all mandatory paid, bi-weekly staff meetings that occur outside of camp hours Attendance at all mandatory paid, bi-weekly staff meetings that occur outside of camp hours What skills and experience will you bring to the team? Attending or completion of post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education, Education, Recreation and Leisure services, or a related field Minimum two (2) years’ supervisory experience working in a camp environment, program planning and organizational experience preferred Minimum two (2) years’ experience working with persons with exceptionalities and diverse backgrounds Current Standard First Aid and CPR C is required HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) is required HIGH FIVE® Quest 2 certification is required Behaviour Management Systems Training (BMS) is required Experience working in Recreation Management Software is required Successful candidate(s) will need to travel between our different camp sites.
