Your opportunity:
Reporting to the Assistant Director, External Relations and Communications, the primary goal of the position is to develop and steward strong partnerships with co-op employers to assure high-quality, paid work-term opportunities for Co-op Management students at the University of Toronto Scarborough. The External Relations Officer is responsible for developing and initiating all aspects of co-op employer relationships that strategically support Management’s academic programs (both undergraduate and graduate). Using a direct sales approach, the incumbent is responsible for conducting market research, identifying target markets, and making contact with employers to develop new co-op job opportunities. This role acts as the point person for international and local employer contacts in the industry sectors that have been identified as a focus according to the strategic direction of Management’s academic programs (both undergraduate and graduate). You will be responsible to develop international job opportunities according to the strategic direction of Management Co-op and secure work-term placements abroad that meet Co-op and Management International Business (MIB) requirements. You will also work collaboratively across the Tri-Campus U of T Co-op partnership by managing strategic accounts to ensure their success in recruiting from U of T Co-op’s partner programs, beyond Management Co-op. This position is also responsible for maintaining regular contact with employers from previous work terms through on-site visits and in-person meetings, networking opportunities, virtual platforms, by phone and email. In consultation with the Assistant Director, External Relations and Communications the incumbent sets annual performance targets both for engaged employers and for job postings in each work term.
You will have the opportunity to contribute to the promotion and development of the MIB program, its employers and students. Market the MIB program and MIB students to employers and alumni. This may include career fairs and conducting cold calls. Participates in the development of MIB through employer networking events and student recruitmentand admission events or process.
Responsibilities also include identifying opportunities to increase employer/industry involvement in support of Management students, such as company information sessions, industry tours, mentorship opportunities,and other levels of engagement with Management students. As well as meet with students to support their international job search success and deliver international job search workshops as needed.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance.
- Identifying, fostering and maintaining relationships with potential and existing employers.
- Developing and revising business methods that support employment services activities and objectives.
- Implementing plans and process improvements for employer engagement activities.
- Implementing plans that support the development of work-integrated learning opportunities for students.
- Evaluating job prospects in alignment with student academic goals.
- Advising students and employers on options to resolve work-term issues.
- Analyzing data to determine trends and recommend target markets.
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field, or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
- Minimum five years of experience in a related sales or business development role with demonstrated track record of success.
- Demonstrated experience should include business-to-business marketing/sales, market research and analysis, identification of target markets, and relationship development.
- A track record of success in a target driven environment generating new business and building client relationships in existing and new market sectors is required.
- Motivated through individual planning and target achievement, yet still thrives in a collaborative team-based environment.
- Demonstrated success in building collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as employers.
- Highly developed presentation, verbal, and written communication skills along with strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
- Enthusiastic self-starter with strong entrepreneurial skills, proactive in driving the effort to increase a client base in the development of opportunities for students.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment, tact and discretion and able to resolve issues, problems and competing goals.
- Must be able to stay organized, multi-task and meet deadlines; and exercise accuracy, analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to set priorities and targets and to meet deadlines in relation to frequently changing demands.
- Must be able to travel locally and internationally on an occasional basis.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends as required by event schedules.

Assets (Nonessential):
- Experience working in a Co-operative Program office in a Post-Secondary environment and/or working with a student population is an asset.
- Experience in international relationship building strongly preferred.
- Experience working in an international environment is a strong asset.
- Knowledge of workplace standards, recruitment and hiring practices, the career services industry, and experience within a co-operative education environment is strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of cross-cultural hiring practices and a second language would be an asset.
- Access to a vehicle would be an asset.
- Previous experience working managing relationships in China, Europe, and the United Kingdom.
