Your opportunity:
The Centre for Criminology & Sociolegal Studies (CrimSL) is a research and teaching unit whose faculty and students study crime, order and security from a variety of disciplinary perspectives and theoretical approaches. We offer an undergraduate program as well as graduate programs for masters and doctoral students, providing a solid foundation for understanding aspects of crime, justice and the processes of social order and disorder. With various backgrounds in sociology, history, law, psychology, philosophy and political science, our faculty are engaged in Canadian and international criminological research.
Under the general direction of the Centre Manager, the Communications and Events Coordinator will play an integral role in maintaining the Centre's digital communication platforms, advising on communication strategy and alumni outreach strategy, producing promotional materials, coordinating internal and external events, and providing audio-visual and multimedia needs to the centre.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Advising on best practices and strategies to maximize digital communication initiatives
- Writing and editing content for brochures, newsletters, websites and promotional materials
- Maintaining information on digital platforms, including the Centre's website and social media platforms
- Analyzing and recommending options for the development of visual expression/layout of digital assets
- Creating and editing web pages with interactive media
- Organizing events and programming on and offsite, including logistical details, technical requirements, bookings, publicity and related arrangements
- Liaising with clients to establish event concept and logistics
- Promoting events and programs to target audience
- Fostering relationships with internal and external contacts in the coordination of marketing activities
- Conceptualizing, organizing and executing event activities
- Pre-testing audio-visual equipment
- Setting-up and maintaining audio/visual systems
- Troubleshooting and resolving technical issues
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in communication, marketing or event management or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 4 years recent and relevant experience in preparing communication content, maintaining communication channels, and organizing events, preferably in an academic environment.
- Experience with writing and editing content and designing layout and format for print and electronic media.
- Experience with design and production of newsletters, promotional materials, and website content and maintenance.
- Experience with administering social media platforms and writing for a web audience.
- Experience in managing a wide range of web publishing and communications tools.
- Experience coordinating the logistics for small to large events, from creation to execution.
- Experience in setting up and maintaining AV systems, checking to ensure equipment is in working order, troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
- Advanced skills in MS Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Skilled in content management system (WordPress and Durpal)
- Skilled in the use of Adobe Creative Suites (e.g. Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator and Dreamweaver)
- Advanced skills in social media platforms such as Facebook, and Instagram
- Skilled in newsletter and marketing platforms (e.g. Mailpoet, MailChimp)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent proofreading and editing skills
- Excellent time-management and organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to interact with multiple stakeholders
- Intermediate to Advanced skills in working with AV systems
