POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Chief Chemist, is responsible for assisting with tasks and duties in the Compliance and Quality Control Section, including but not limited to the following:
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists the laboratory technicians with day-to-day routine sampling and experiments at the WPCP.
Keeps lab tidy and assists with glass washing, data entry and sampling at the WPCP.
Assists the Environmental Inspector with sampling and field work at SWRF as well as at public sites.
May assist the Process Engineer at WPCP with special projects with Chief Chemists approval.
Under the direction of the Chief Chemist, may take on special projects and other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
Secondary school graduation & enrolled in a program in the natural sciences (chemistry or environmental engineering program preferred) or equivalent, at a college or university.
Skills & Abilities:
Must be able to communicate effectively and concisely both orally and in writing
Must be highly motivated and work well both in a team environment and with minimal supervision
Must be able to be professional in public settings
Proficient in the use of computers and current related software (Microsoft Office)
Must possess and maintain a valid Class “G” Ontario Drivers Licence, or equivalent
Must meet the definition of a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Will be required to work in an industrial plant and a laboratory setting
Will be required to perform field work
May be required to engage with the public
Must remain a competent driver as defined by the Corporation
May be required to provide a successful driver’s abstract
