The Head of Technology – Individual Insurance is responsible for leading the Individual Insurance team to achieve business outcomes aligned with our strategic goals. Position Title: Head of Technology - Individual Insurance
Reports To: Executive Vice-President, Chief Information Officer
Department: IT Individual Insurance
Term: Permanent Full-Time
Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.
What you will be doing:
Provide leadership in technology strategy and execution of initiatives in collaboration with business and other cross functional teams;
Manage the portfolio of systems in terms of technology currency, business agility, technology evolution, business fit, opportunities to improve efficiencies and TCO;
Provide primary leadership in execution of digital modernization program for line of business;
Manage interdependencies between projects and prioritise based on business drivers and outcomes;
Drive technology change management and support business adoption of applications;
Accountable for managing technology budgets and expenses;
Establish and maintain relationships with external partners and technology suppliers;
Manages the business-capability SLAs to IT SLAs with internal and external technology and service providers;
Accountable for multiple, technology development and support teams with multidisciplinary roles including direct reporting of technology platform owners, managers, and architects;
Leading and engaging the team to deliver strategic objectives through effective coaching and mentoring, identifying, and developing emerging talent, and fostering an innovative, collaborative, and agile culture.
What you will bring:
15+ years of experience in leading technology teams and plan, prioritize and implement initiatives consistent with business needs and expectations;
Experience in implementing technology solutions for large projects with solid understanding of digital frameworks, core administration systems, data platforms, cloud, and API management;
Adept at implementing modern technology practices and solutions, while keeping up with emerging technology trends and its long and short-term implications on business;
Ability to develop technology roadmaps, execution plans, resource allocations, and business case;
Strong analytical, strategic thinking and communication skills with the ability to synthesize, develop and present clear and concise recommendations;
Strong leadership skills including change management, mentorship, motivation, coaching and development, and the ability to galvanize support;
Ability to communicate a compelling vision and inspire business teams to adopt and leverage innovative technology solutions;
Works exceptionally well in cross-functional teams and is a champion of collaboration, with proven ability to influence business partners;
Strong capabilities in portfolio management and organizational effectiveness.
