The Haskayne School of Business is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Teaching & Learning Specialist.
The Teaching and Learning Specialist position assumes responsibilities associated with the Office of Teaching and Learning at the Haskayne School of Business, and takes the lead in the area of accreditation, as well as other special projects.
This role involves high stress and requires strong discretionary decision-making, multi-tasking, and the ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines amid frequent interruptions. The incumbent works with limited direction, setting priorities and deadlines for themselves and others, ensuring timely completion or negotiation as needed.
Strong communication skills are essential for engaging with diverse stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, senior administration, government representatives, and business leaders. The incumbent must exercise discretion and sound judgment in addressing complex issues and implementing resolutions to maintain service integrity.
The role demands exceptional attention to detail, as work is driven by critical deadlines and involves managing competing priorities in a dynamic environment. Accuracy in data collection and analysis is crucial. The incumbent must be highly organized, proactive in information management, and comfortable working independently while exercising tact, problem-solving skills, and confidentiality.
This position reports to the Manager, Graduate Programs and also works under the direction of the Associate Deans in the Haskayne School of Business. Due to operational requirements, the incumbent is expected to work predominantly on campus and in-office. Primary working hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M, 7 hours per day (35 hours per week); however, due to constantly shifting priorities, flexibility is required including some evening and weekend hours. This position is a part of the AUPE bargaining unit.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Teaching and Learning Professional Program Development and Delivery:
- In conjunction with the Associate Deans develop and deliver a professional development program within Haskayne that meets the unique needs of faculty and staff and optimizes the offerings of TILC and other campus organizations
- Coach Teaching and Learning Coordinators through training workshops and individual instruction to ensure their knowledge is sufficient to assist instructors in their home areas with all required teaching and learning software/platforms
- Design and implement tools to measure the effects of programs developed and implemented
- Encourage and facilitate the writing and publishing of instructional cases
Resources & Policy Development:
- Assist the Associate Deans with development of teaching resources and recommendations on delivery methods, assessment tools and best practices
- Design and implement templates (courses / cases / midterm evaluation / group evaluation)
- Assist the Associate Deans with the development of policies and procedures in order to meet the standards set by accrediting bodies and align with University-level regulations
Curriculum Review Processes and Accreditation:
- Assists with the Curriculum Review process and works closely with the Teaching and Learning administrators to ensure proper data collection
- Responsible for all aspects of the Teaching & Learning components of the AACSB accreditation process
- Ensures that data collected and submitted is accurate
- Identifies, recommends, and develops strategies, processes and policies that would assist in the management of the accreditation process
- Responsible for creating all necessary accreditation/CR reports
- Keeps the Associate Deans and senior administration informed of possible deficiencies that could impact the School's accreditation
- Develops and maintains positive working relationships with members of faculty and staff
- Presents updates in an easily understood format
- Provides training to faculty and staff on learning assessments, curriculum review process (in applicable cycle years) and assists with the alignment of course outlines and learning outcomes
Qualifications / Requirements:
- A Master's degree (Education), or a Master's degree (Business) with an undergraduate degree in education
- 4 to 6 years of progressive professional development including program administration, curricular enhancement and accreditation experience, or a combination of minimum 2 to 4 years of progressive professional development including program administration, curricular enhancement and accreditation experience and the completion of Master's degree (an equivalent combination of skills and experience will be considered)
- Strong understanding of business school's structures and programs, the University's policies, procedures and core business systems, as well as the University's reporting, organizational and governance structures
- Well-developed understanding of the University and the School's strategic plan
- Excellent organizational, time management and problem-solving skills
- Strong interpersonal, written, verbal, and public speaking skills with proven ability to communicate with faculty, staff and other internal and external stakeholders
- Experience training adult learners
- Must be open to learning and development and be willing to accept new challenges and assignments
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with discretion and professionalism
- Creativity, innovation and familiarity with the K-12 education system and, in particular, the high school student population, would be regarded as an asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, Teams); SharePoint familiarity is an asset
- Ability to adopt and learn new software, and familiarity with SharePoint considered and asset
