The School of Creative and Performing Arts (SCPA), Division of Dance invites applications for Sessional Instructors to teach the following courses in the Fall 2025 and Winter 2026. Lectures for the Fall 2025 term run from September 2 to December 5, 2025, and lectures for the Winter 2026 term run from January 12 to April 14, 2026. Please see the academic schedule for additional important dates and deadlines.

DNCE 211: Introductory Jazz Dance

DNCE 217 / DNCE 343.15: Hip Hop II / Street Dance Forms

Course description: Intermediate study of the techniques of hip hop.
DNCE 321/323/421/423: Elementary Ballet / Intermediate Ballet

DNCE 311/313/411/413: Elementary Jazz Dance / Intermediate Jazz Dance

Course description: Elementary study of the techniques of jazz dance. Intermediate study of the techniques of jazz dance.
DNCE 347: Modern and Contemporary Dance History
Note - sessional instructor hired at 0.5 HCE only
Course dates: January 12 - April 14, 2026
Mondays and Wednesdays, 16:00 to 17:15
Course description: In depth study of western modern and contemporary dance theatre practices with particular focus on twentieth century to present.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Preferred qualification: possession of MFA or PhD in Dance or Interdisciplinary MFA or PhD with a dance focus. Minimum qualification: MA, BA or BFA degree in dance, physical education with a dance emphasis, or theater with dance emphasis.
- Professional experience recognized by peers in the field
- Outstanding professional achievement or substantial training in the field specified in the job announcement.
- Ability to communicate effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities.
- Demonstrated evidence of successful teaching experience at the university level.
Desirable Skills and Abilities:
- Energy, enthusiasm and commitment to excellence in teaching.
- The willingness to work with students having a wide range of skills, varying abilities, motivations, and academic or vocational goals.
- The ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with others in a team environment.
- The ability to use instructional strategies designed for diverse learning styles and academic goals.
- Demonstrable knowledge of current literature on dance.
