The Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Arts invites applications for a Research Coordinator position. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Principal Investigator.
The research coordinator will provide research and administrative support to the Principal Investigator. They will work closely with the research team, operational management, community organizations, healthcare providers, and patient partners to develop, implement, and evaluate psychosocial interventions to support children, adolescents, and young adults diagnosed with cancer.
This position is based at the Arthur JE Child Comprehensive Cancer Centre. However, travel to the Department of Psychology may be required. Workdays may vary in length and may occasionally include evening and weekend hours to facilitate data collection, management and oversight.
The Research Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating several investigator-initiated research studies. Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): preparing and maintaining ethics and institutional approvals; participant recruitment; data collection, entry and analysis; financial administration; assisting with preparing presentations, manuscripts, and grant proposals; coordination of patient engagement and knowledge translation activities; and general administrative support.
The Research Coordinator may provide direction to volunteers, students, patient partners, and new staff regarding orientation and operational procedures.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Manages research studies, which may include patient recruitment, data collection, monitoring, entry, cleaning, scoring, analysis, and preparation of manuscripts.
- Prepares ethics submissions and communicates with the Research Ethics Board and other regulatory bodies, as required.
- Administers research budget allocations and tracks revenues and expenditures.
- Develops project timelines and monitors project deadlines and outcomes.
- Prepares data for progress reports, grant applications, presentations, and peer-reviewed research papers.
- Under the general direction of the PI, coordinates research staff, students, and volunteers including onboarding, delegating tasks and duties, and providing support as appropriate.
- Liaises between clinicians, researchers and team members to ensure that projects are managed effectively, on time, on budget, and are aligned with the overall objectives.
- Assists with the preparation of grant applications and ensures that pre- and post-award requirements are maintained.
- Prepares and delivers engaging, informative, well-organized presentations.
- Provides general administrative support including scheduling meetings and events, coordinating conferences and seminars, and preparing meeting notes and memos as needed.
- Proactively anticipates problems and develops preventative solutions; helps to establish quality performance standards.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Health Sciences or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum two (2) years of experience coordinating research projects in an academic health research setting.
- Certification as a Clinical Research Professional (SOCRA, ACRP) is an asset.
- Experience with the IRISS ethics platform and online data collection software (RedCap).
- Demonstrated experience facilitating project delivery across multidisciplinary departments, institutions, and partners.
- Strong understanding of health services and healthcare delivery in community and acute care settings.
- Experience with University of Calgary and Alberta Health Services operational processes strongly preferred.
- Experience conducting survey-based research, individual interviews, and focus groups is an asset.
- Demonstrated experience with quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
- Proficiency with computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office suite) and design platforms (e.g., Canva).
- Experience with patient engagement in research is an asset.
- Experience with academic writing (e.g., peer-reviewed manuscripts, abstracts) is an asset.
- Experience managing multiple projects with competing priorities/deadlines with accuracy.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work as a member of diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong oral and written communications skills.
- Sound judgment, problem-solving skills and ability to maintain confidentiality, tact, and discretion.
