The Libin Cardiovascular Institute in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Nurse Clinician. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately x months/year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The Broderick Cardiomyopathy Program provides cutting-edge, patient-centered care for individuals with cardiomyopathy. Our multidisciplinary team of specialists is committed to advancing research, treatment, and education in this critical cardiology field.
The Nurse Clinician will provide specialized nursing care, patient education, and care coordination for individuals diagnosed with cardiomyopathies, and their at-risk family members. The role involves close collaboration with physicians, advanced practice providers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive, high-quality care.
This is a recurring part-time position. Recurring part-time employees are hourly employee engaged to perform work on an irregular schedule.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Provide direct patient care, including assessment, education, and support for individuals with genetic and neuromuscular cardiomyopathies
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans
- Educate patients and families on disease management, lifestyle modifications, and treatment options
- Coordinate diagnostic testing, follow-up appointments, and referrals as needed
- Participate in research initiatives and quality improvement projects related to cardiomyopathy care
- Serve as a clinical resource and mentor for nursing staff and other healthcare professionals
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Current RN license in the Province of Alberta
- Current appointment with Alberta Health Services
- Bachelor of Nursing (BN) required
- Minimum of 2 years of clinical cardiology nursing experience, preferably in a Cardiac Intensive Care Unit
- Strong patient education and counseling skills
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
- Preference will be given to candidates with
- Training or clinical experience caring for genetic cardiomyopathies
- Health research experience at Alberta Health Services or the University of Calgary
