Description
The Department of Oncology in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a CANPACT Research Manager. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position will report to the CAN-PACT Study Principal Investigator.
The CANPACT Research Manager will be the overall Research Manager of the Canada-wide Canadian Network in Psychedelic-Assisted Cancer Therapy (CAN-PACT) and serve to oversee day-to-day operations of all the research activities and members of the CAN-PACT Network, reporting directly to the study Principal Investigator. They will assist in managing budgets and Human Resource tasks with the Principal Investigator, directly supervise Research Assistants, manage content for websites and other network materials, communicate with network members including clinicians, researchers, patient partners and policy makers, organize annual meetings, and delegate timelines and deliverables of various project objectives with the Principal Investigator. They will co-ordinate and attend annual meetings.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Project Direction and Leadership (alongside the PI)
- Direct and manage the research program
- Establish and maintain multi-faceted research team
- Manage performance and development of individual team members to maximize success and motivation
- Oversee research progress and adjust project objectives as necessary
- Oversee development of technical protocols
- Oversee the development and management of the project budget
- Oversee management of legal issues related to research (i.e. ethics, MTAs, IP)
- Coordinate the assembly and submission of papers for publication
- Coordinate the assembly and submission of provincial and national grants to obtain funding
- Liaise between project Funders, Research Team, and Executive Committee to ensure all parties involved remain engaged and aware of project progress and issues
- Act as scientific liaison between clinicians and scientists
Staff Management
- Responsible for working with Principal investigator to determine positions that would support the strategic goals of the Research group
- Manages the creation of job profiles, and onboarding of staff
Use of Technical Knowledge & Expertise
- Authoring or contributing to abstracts/manuscripts for publication
- Collaborate in designing the research project that will attract external funding as well as lead to peer-reviewed high-impact publications
- Author scientific publications
- Author grants
Communication
- Engage the external environment through thought leadership and by publishing scientific work
- Establish and maintain visible and active engagement with key opinion leaders, professional societies, and academic institutions
- Oversee completion of semi-annual reports
- Develop presentations to report scientific progress
- Present project progress at conferences and meetings to encourage collaboration
- Act as a liaison to provide communication between research teams, supervisors, and funders
- Coach and mentor students
- Communicate project performance to student supervisors
- Author scientific reports to provide updates to funders
Qualifications / Requirements:
- 3-5 years related experience and completion of Graduate degree (masters or PhD) in related discipline, such as Psychosocial Oncology, Clinical Psychology, Nursing, Medical Sciences or Community Health (Preferred)
- Research experience in psychosocial oncology/integrative oncology/psychedelic-assisted therapy
- History of peer-reviewed publications in these areas
- Successful grant writing skills with a track record of obtaining grant-funding an asset
- Knowledgeable in writing medical/scientific research protocols
- Experience in writing medical/scientific literature for publication (strong scientific and academic writing skills required)
- Proficiency with databases, database design, statistical software and electronic medical records
- Knowledge of research design and basic knowledge of biostatistics
- Experience in managing staff in a unionized environment an asset
- Familiarity/experience conducting clinical trials
- Advanced knowledge of research administrative procedures
- Excellent leadership and organizational skills
- Above-average interpersonal and communication skills
- Self-directed, enthusiastic and honest in performance of duties
- Ability to manage time effectively and determine priorities as well as delegate tasks appropriately
- Experience and understanding of the University environment including PeopleSoft and Efin an asset
- Experience in working with internal/external teams to manage and grow a project and/or program
- Extensive knowledge of patient privacy policies, FOIP
