The Arnie Charbonneau Cancer Institute in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Research Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Principal Investigator.
This position is to support research activities involved with biobanking and data collection of these collected samples. This position will require screening for potential eligible patients and consenting them to biobanking as well as collecting their clinical data at diagnosis and throughout course of their disease. Follow-up visits may include communicating with patients during outpatient and inpatient visits and attaining their consent for initial and follow-up bone marrow aspirates and blood work. Coordination of study kits and ensuring sample collection is processed correctly is required. Clinical data will be collected for future translational research as well as retrospective studies.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Identify and recruit study participants
- Obtains informed consent from participants
- Coordinate timely follow-up visits with participants
- Enters data and ensures collected data submitted is accurate
- Must maintain the ethical and confidentiality standards of the University of Calgary and Alberta Health Services
- Establishes and maintains good relationships with all research project members and participants
- Establishes and maintains effective, productive relationships with staff, peers, and the research team including the PI and the Clinical Trials Coordinator
- Ensures relevant research methodology is applied and proper procedures are followed including the ICH GCP guidelines, and guidelines on clinical research set out by Alberta Health Services and the ethics board
- Assist and support ethics applications submissions
- Maintain operational approval from AHS to conduct the study or submit modifications
- Other related duties as assigned involving data collection or rarer myeloid subtypes
- Training of junior research assistants who may contribute to data collection
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a health science related field or equivalent is required. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred
- Previous experience identifying and recruiting patients for clinical studies is an asset
- Previous experience maintaining an accurate and up-to-date database is an asset
- Understanding of and experience with the University of Calgary clinical research process
- Understanding of and experience with Alberta Health Services and Connect Care
- Knowledge and experience with the University of Calgary Conjoint Health Research Ethics Board and related ethical standards
- Completion of ICH/GCP training
- Clinical Research Certification (CCRP) and Membership (SOCRA) is an asset
- Good judgment and decision making
- Ability to perform self-directed work
- Detail-oriented focus
- Ability to work independently, be able to work with and communicate in a team-based environment
- Ability to solve complex problems
- Superior organizational and time management skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong computer and data entry skills
