The Body Shop Canada is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Senior Accountant to join our growing Finance team. Reporting to the Director of Finance, the successful candidate will manage daily operations of the accounting department, perform various accounting tasks, and support the overall financial health of the organization. This role is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in accounting principles and who is happy to roll up his/her sleeves to get work done. The anticipated career path for this role is to grow and develop into an Accounting Manager role with the business.
Key Responsibilities:
General Accounting:
- Oversee and manage the general accounting functions, including, but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, audit and taxes.
- Manage Accounts Payable by ensuring timely payments and process flow.
- Maintain and reconcile balance sheet accounts.
- Prepare monthly sales taxes reconciliation and returns.
- Manage Store rent payments and communication with Landlords.
Cash Management:
- Administer and oversee all banking and cash management functions, including monitoring cash balances and preparing cash flow forecasts.
- Perform regular bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
Financial Reporting \& Month-End Close:
- Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes, including preparing and posting journal entries, accruals, and adjustments.
- Prepare timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with accounting standards.
Audit \& Compliance Support:
- Assist with internal and external audits, including preparing audit schedules and responding to auditor queries.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and financial reporting regulations
- Support annual corporate tax filings by providing accurate financial data and ensuring tax compliance.
Fixed Asset Management:
- Maintain and reconcile the fixed assets register.
- Record asset acquisitions, disposals, depreciation, and amortization schedules.
- Ensure proper classification and treatment of capitalized expenditures.
Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and system enhancements to streamline accounting operations.
- Develop and implement best practices for financial processes, procedures, and reporting standards.
Qualifications/Competencies:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. CPA designation preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of related accounting experience.
- Proven ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines.
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Must be proactive with a keen sense of urgency.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office, advanced Excel abilities required.
- Experience with major ERP system. SAP and/or Microsoft Dynamics Business Central highly preferred.
- Must be authorized to work in Canada.
