Position Overview
Reporting to the Manager, Horticulture Operations and Community Programs, the Community Programs Coordinator is responsible for the development, coordination and delivery of community programs in Parks, Forestry and Horticulture Operations. This role includes coordinating community outreach, volunteer development, event management, and developing and implementing policies, strategies, and work plans for community programs. Identifies and coordinates sponsorship opportunities and promotes departmental initiatives by developing communications/marketing materials, sponsorship proposals, and presentations. Liaises with internal and external stakeholders including leading working groups and committees.
Ensures compliance with divisional and corporate service standards as well as health and safety procedures in accordance with relevant legislation.
Responsibilities
- Effective Program Coordination

Coordinates, develops and implements community programs including program administration, community outreach, volunteer management, and event planning.

Liaises with staff, management, elected officials, residents, and external agencies to provide or exchange information.

Establishes effective partnerships with other departments to facilitate project planning and implementation.

Identifies continuous improvement opportunities to enhance program delivery and customer service.

Collaborates with Economic Development to solicit corporate sponsorship and donations.

Supports the development of communication and marketing materials.

Research and Reporting

Assists with staff reports, briefs, presentations and correspondence for management consideration.

Tracks and reports performance measures related to community programs and initiatives.

Researches and monitors environmental sustainability initiatives and provides recommendations.

Interactions with Others

Develops and implements communication and marketing strategies.

Guides program participants to increase awareness and participation.

Establishes partnerships with residents and organizations in support of initiatives.

Manages requests including resident inquiries and maintains stakeholder information.

Empowers volunteers through coaching and training.

Exhibits sound judgement in resolving sensitive matters.

Manages volunteer administration including recruitment and retention.

Qualifications and Experience
-
Four (4) year degree in Urban or Environmental Sustainability, Public Administration, Public Relations or equivalent experience.

Minimum of four (4) years' related experience in program coordination, sustainability management, community engagement preferably in a municipal or government environment.

High-energy team player capable of multi-tasking and coordinating significant initiatives.

Proven ability to work independently on a wide range of duties.

Effective time management, organizational and interpersonal skills.

Ability to think and act strategically with political acuity.

Demonstrated leadership, supervisory, and staff development skills.

Effective communication skills including drafting correspondence, marketing materials, and reports.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications.

Possesses a valid Ontario "G" Driver's License with access to a reliable vehicle.
