Overview
As Associate Director, AV Activation ,you will play a key leadership role in delivering high-impact media strategies across offline and online premium video and audio channels. Reporting to the VP of Activation, you'll lead tactical planning, negotiation, and flawless execution of media investments that drive results for our clients.
You'll be responsible for overseeing one or more major accounts (>$1M revenue), managing high-performing teams, and ensuring excellence in both client service and operational delivery. The role requires a balance of strategic thinking and hands-on expertise, with a strong foundation in both traditional and digital media, and a deep understanding of the Canadian media landscape.
You'll be expected to bring an innovative mindset, continuously seeking new ways to improve campaign performance, explore emerging platforms, and challenge the status quo.
Key Responsibilities
Client Leadership \& Engagement
- Act as a strategic advisor in all client interactions, leading conversations with clarity and confidence.
- Build and maintain trusted client relationships rooted in performance, transparency, and innovation.
- Present competitive insights, market trends, and media opportunities to guide client decision-making.
- Simplify and communicate complex media concepts across digital and offline platforms.
- Demonstrated experience with programmatic platforms, premium digital video, and audio campaigns (radio, streaming, and podcasts) is highly desirable.
Strategy, Communication \& Collaboration
- Ensure strong alignment between client goals and internal team execution.
- Partner with strategic and tactical leads to drive campaign performance and innovative solutions.
- Provide ongoing mentorship and cross-functional training across internal teams.
- Operate seamlessly within a matrixed organization, balancing multiple priorities effectively.
Operational \& Financial Management
- Support the VP of Activation in optimizing operational workflows and aligning tactical output to strategic goals.
- Maintain financial oversight, ensuring accuracy in pacing, reconciliation, and media investments.
- Negotiate effectively with vendors and partners to maximize value and deliver on media performance goals.
- Leverage corporate partnerships and industry relationships to drive added value and ensure media efficiency.
Team Leadership
- Lead, coach, and inspire a team of AV specialists, fostering collaboration and growth.
- Create an environment that motivates high performance, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Provide actionable feedback and support professional development plans for team members.
Media \& Business Acumen
- Stay ahead of media market dynamics---including Canadian ownership shifts, inventory trends, and platform innovation.
- Lead activation strategy with a strong command of analytics, performance measurement, and media tools.
- Comfort working with large data sets and marketing performance metrics to optimize outcomes.
- Experience with audio platforms, including radio networks, digital streaming services, and podcast sponsorships.
- Experience with InstarTV/Lens is preferred.
- Hands-on experience with DV360 and other DSPs is an asset.
Qualifications
- 6 years of experience in media planning/buying or activation (across online and offline channels).
- Deep understanding of the media ecosystem---including offline and programmatic, connected TV, and audio channels
- Proven success executing offline and online audio and video campaigns
- Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
- Strong client service orientation with the ability to independently lead client communications.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and Instar/NLogic tools is required.
- Degree or diploma in advertising, marketing, communications, or a related field.
