Role Description
The Director, Financial Control will be responsible for creating and maintaining control structures surrounding the periodic preparation of financials and other business information, such as cost accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis. The role involves evaluating controls and processes to streamline activities and produce accurate accounting data, preparing financial reports in accordance with OSFI requirements, IFRS, and JGAAP.
Job Responsibilities:
- Accounting: Develop, maintain, and review risk KRIs and measurement methodologies; ensure proper processing of transactions; oversee audit and accounting controls; utilize IT systems effectively; coordinate with auditors.
- Regulatory Reporting: Ensure timely production of all regulatory and internal reports; maintain accurate records for Canadian and Japanese reporting; act as registration personnel for OSFI RRS; prepare reports for OSFI and stakeholders.
- Financial Controls: Develop and maintain financial/product controls; test controls periodically and ensure internal control attestations.
- Tax Filing: Ensure accurate and timely tax filings; serve as the local Tax Compliance officer.
- Policy \& Training: Maintain and update policies; train and supervise team members.
- Other Responsibilities: Foster relationships for timely reporting; participate in product development; work with auditors and regulators; engage with industry bodies.
- Supervision \& Decision-Making: Lead the accounting team; recommend operational improvements; represent SMBC in regional projects.
- Qualifications \& Skills: Post-secondary education in finance/accounting; CPA/CA; experience with Big 4 and banking; leadership experience; knowledge of taxation and regulatory reporting; strong communication and IT skills.
