Location This position is eligible for a hybrid work model. This role is currently based out of Halton Court Services located at 4085 Palladium Way, Burlington, Ontario. However, the work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands. Effective January 2026 this role will be in person a minimum of 10 days per month. Position Overview This position is responsible for working with the Prosecutors to provide court room support. In addition, this position has administrative, clerical and customer service responsibilities for the Prosecution Unit. This position will work 35 hours per week. Responsibilities Attend Court to speak with defendants and offer early resolutions, providing backup support to Prosecutors in court when necessary. Meet with defendants either in person or via Zoom to review their charge, review fatal flaws on tickets, and reasonable prospect of conviction. Request, gather, and process disclosure requests. Forward information to defendants and legal representatives. Review disclosures to ensure completeness and accuracy and redact any personal or irrelevant information. Provide daily customer service to residents, government agencies, and other stakeholders regarding court processes and providing information as it relates to prosecutions. Respond to inquiries from other departments in relation to prosecution matters. Prepare notices of motion to have a matter adjourned if a witness or police officer is unavailable on the scheduled trial date. Prepare "summons to witness'" forms and have them sworn by a Justice of the Peace. Gather files and prepare "unofficial" docket in advance of trial date for prosecutor review. Maintain statistics regarding withdrawal, Charter Motions, disclosure requests, and the number of conflict matters/French matters heard. Accountable for communicating an outcome when all parties are not in agreement. Duties and responsibilities are inclusive, but not limited to the above. Requirements Qualified applicants have successfully completed a College Diploma as a Law Clerk, Legal Secretary, or a related field. University degree is preferred. Must have Paralegal License in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario (LSO). Minimum 2, up to 4 years of related legal experience. The applicant requires thorough knowledge of legal and office related software applications. Knowledge of CAMS and ICON is an asset.
