What does a Recreation Aide do?
Implements recreation programs which include activities such as outings, parties, exercises, crafts and entertainment.
Organizes resident activities and trips outside the facility while ensuring that the residents have proper clothing and necessary equipment for the activity, confirms details of the proposed activity with nursing/administration staff, coordinates the movement of residents during the activity and teaches the techniques of the related activity.
Consults with family and nursing staff in order to determine the activities which meet the residents’ needs.
Designs an appropriate variety of recreation programs tailored to resident needs.
Monitors and evaluates resident progress through activity programs and reports observations such as emotional wellbeing and social behavior to nursing staff as required.
Maintains Inventory of equipment, tools and materials and reports malfunctioning equipment and supply needs to the appropriate staff.
Qualifications:
Graduate from a recognized Activity/Recreation Certificate or diploma program.
Experience in a senior’s focused recreation department an asset.
Health Care Provider level First Aid Certificate (Current).
Proof of COVID vaccination.
