LAND-BASE DETOX COUNSELLOR/FACILITATOR

Annual Salary Range: $52,000 - $57,000

Purpose
Under the direction of the Lead Counsellor and Facilitator, the Counsellor / Facilitator attends all land base detox and treatment camps under Niigaaniin Services. The Counsellor / Facilitator provides support community members during the duration of the land base camps.
The Counsellor / Facilitator is responsible for coordinating with the lead counsellor and medical professionals to support ongoing care to community members when next course of treatment is outside of Counsellor / Facilitators scope of practice.
Requirements:
It is preferred for the applicant to be a registered band member of the First Nations serviced by Niigaaniin Services, including Batchewana First Nation, Garden River First Nation, Thessalon First Nation, Mississauga First Nation, Serpent River First Nation, Sagamok Anishnawbek, Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, and Wahnapitae First Nation.
College Diploma in Addictions Counselling and/or Social Work with a minimum of 3 years’ work experience inthe addictions field,
Experience with GAIN SS and Q3, URICA is an asset,
Experience using ADAT (Admissions and Discharge Criteria and Assessment Tools) is an asset,
CPR level C & First Aid,
Superior oral and written communication skills, excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment,
Must be Proficient in MS Office Applications, Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and internet.
Must have a clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Peoples Sector Check applicable to the responsibilities of this position.
Must have a Driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required for transportation to and from camp sites.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and understanding of Anishnaabemowin, culture and traditions of Indigenous people of the Robinson Huron Treaty,
Familiar with community services networks and knowledge the Niigaaniin Services would be an asset,
Handling of Primary Care Counsellor / Facilitator s tasks of administering medications, providing basic medical care, performing trauma mobilization, and monitoring patients and perform intravenous therapy.
Ability to work in a performance-based system with a proven track record of meeting targets and outcomes is essential,
Requires minimum supervision, able to work independently and maintains a supportive and cooperative environment with colleagues and the communities,
All candidates must be able to work with a diverse population,
Ability to bend, pull, push, and lift up to 50 lbs,
Demonstrated ability to implement clinical care in accordance with outlined policies and procedures of the land-based detox camp,
Ability to exercise sound judgment while working in a stressful environment,
Excellent teamwork skill to collaborate with other emergency services professionals,
Exceptional problem-solving skills to navigate challenging situation with community members, staff and other emergency services professionals,
Mental toughness to handle difficult situations,
Ability to think quickly and critically, especially when deciding the next course of treatment for community members,
Ability to stay calm under pressure and make life-saving decisions in critical situations with community members attending detox and treatment camps,
Excellent observation skills and strong attention to detail when working amongst community members.
