LAND-BASE PEER SUPPORT WORKER

Annual Salary Range: $50,000 - $52,000

Purpose
Under the direction of the Lead Counsellor / Facilitator, the Landbase Support attends all land base detox and treatment camps under Niigaaniin Services.
The Landbase Support provides support to community members during the duration of the land base camps and provides appropriate and/or related facilitation from the Mino Bimaadizidaa curriculum to community members.
Requirements:
It is preferred for the applicant to be a registered band member of the First Nations serviced by Niigaaniin Services, including Batchewana First Nation, Garden River First Nation, Thessalon First Nation, Mississauga First Nation, Serpent River First Nation, Sagamok Anishnawbek, Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, and Wahnapitae First Nation,
Training certificate in Peerworks and/or similar community member support training, or minimum of 1 years’ work experience in the addictions field,
Certificate in Facilitation would be an asset,
Experience with GAIN SS and Q3, URICA and ERS is an asset,
Experience using ADAT (Admissions and Discharge Criteria and Assessment Tools) is an asset,
CPR level C & First Aid certificate,
Superior oral and written communication skills, excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment,
Must be Proficient in MS Office Applications, Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and internet,
Must have a clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Peoples Sector Check applicable to the responsibilities of this position, and
Driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required for transportation to and from camp sites.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and understanding of Anishnaabemowin, culture and traditions of Indigenous people of the Robinson Huron Treaty,
Familiar with community services networks and knowledge the Niigaaniin Services would be an asset,
Strong Facilitation skills and ability to keep community members engaged in all topics,
Ability to work in a performance-based system with a proven track record of meeting targets and outcomes is essential,
Requires minimum supervision, able to work independently and maintains a supportive and cooperative environment with colleagues and the communities,
All candidates must be able to work with a diverse population,
Ability to bend, pull, push, and lift up to 50 lbs,
Demonstrated ability to implement community care in accordance with outlined policies and procedures of the land-based detox camp,
Ability to exercise sound judgment while working in a stressful environment,
Excellent teamwork skill to collaborate with other emergency services professionals,
Exceptional problem-solving skills to navigate challenging situation with community members, staff and other emergency services professionals,
Mental toughness to handle difficult situations,
Ability to think quickly and critically, especially when supporting community members in their treatment journey,
Ability to stay calm under pressure while supporting community members attending detox and treatment camps,
Excellent observation skills and strong attention to detail when working amongst community members.
