Position Overview The Roads, Parks and Forestry Department is recruiting for a Road Patroller. Road Patrollers are responsible for performing road patrols, inspections and road and park maintenance, including after hours response to unplanned occurrences and storm- related needs. Responsibilities Road Patrollers may be required to perform any or all of the duties listed below: Perform routine patrols of city roads to identify and document deficiencies and conditions in accordance with provincial legislation and City and Regional standards, polices and procedures. Monitor, document and communicate weather and road conditions to assist in appropriate deployment of maintenance services. Conduct specialized patrols, condition assessments and inspections of city road infrastructure to assist in identifying maintenance needs. Provide departmental first response to urgent or emergency issues, determine appropriate action to resolve issues, including contacting additional staff resources, emergency services, regional representatives and communicating with supervisor as warranted. Operate equipment and vehicles of all sizes to carry out duties Perform maintenance to roads and parks, as well as, on the spot repairs in response to unplanned events or incidences, which may present an immediate safety concern or inconvenience to the public. Perform after hours routine inspection and parks, and facilities. Investigate and respond to customer service requests received directly from the public, other departments and external agencies. Assist with and/ or perform dispatch functions. Assist with special events Maintains accurate and detailed records including but not limited to accomplishments, deficiencies and actions taken. Monitor work performed by contractors to ensure it meets city standards and recommend remedial work required by contractors, in keeping with contract performance expectations and levels of service. Operate brine station by monitoring production and filling hopper/tank. Shunt, fuel and wash vehicles and equipment. Perform daily vehicle circle checks and complete reports. Responsible for vehicle equipment cleanliness, performs minor maintenance, such as greasing, checking fluids and adjustments. Documents and reports all defects to vehicle maintenance supervisor. Other duties as assigned. Requirements A valid DZ driver’s licence is required with an acceptable driver’s abstract (no more than three (3) driving related convictions or an accumulation of no more than three (3) demerit points in the previous three (3) years prior to the date of hire). Additional Information This position is 40 hours per week (April to December); 42 hours per week (December to April), 24/7 rotating shifts including weekends.
