Company: Asahi Kasei Battery Separator Canada Corporation Job Description: About the Role We are seeking a Senior Construction Engineer to be a part of a new plant start-up based in Port Colborne, Ontario. This position manages the day-to-day activity for new manufacturing plant construction. This role oversees and directs the performance of all field construction and related activities in conformance with safety, quality, plans, specifications, schedules, and cost estimates. Reporting Relationships This position directly reports to the Senior Construction Engineer and does not supervise others. Oversee all risks associated with the execution of the work; to include being the driver for the focus for on-going risk assessment and associated mitigation efforts. Ensure full and efficient alignment for all activities, including all functions, departments, and locations with particular focus across project phases. Adhere to and support Asahi Kasei Battery Separator Canada's health, safety & environmental policies. Mainly serve to check and coordinate construction activity at site area daily. Coordinate and communicate all activity between engineering and construction work. Coordinate and implement indirect activities, internal and external, required to support a productive project execution; including functional staff support, support craft activities, and any other resource necessary to assure a safe and quality project execution. Responsible for assuring all work undertaken is within approved scope boundaries and is in full compliance with all pertinent requirements. Support planning, scheduling, tracking, and managing construction milestones. Track all project delays and log, communicating with client and contractors. Manage quality assurances and quality control in all aspects of project construction. Review ITP, method of statement, and shop drawings. Inspect construction work proactively and feedback to engineers and contractors, to including track log and punch killing. Attend inspection activity and supervise approved procedure and method are followed. Evaluate, manage, motivate and encourage staff and contractors. Provide technical leadership and knowledge for construction while maintaining quality standards. Promote and maintain good contractor and vendor relationships. Participate in pre-construction meetings with contractors. Participate in weekly safety and schedule coordination meetings with contractors, as well as pre-installation meetings. Verify that equipment and installations comply with approved submittals. Manage contractor compliance. Make sure no extra work is allowed without written authorization. Make sure changes to the project are approved and documented. Qualifications Education Background: Must possess a bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering or other related field of study. Knowledge & Experience: 7+ years of commercial construction project management experience is required. Experience in completing construction projects with a value of $50 million or more is required. Knowledge of applicable local, province, and national statutes and guidelines is strongly preferred. Must possess understanding of all aspects of building commercial structures, construction tools, materials techniques, and practices. Must have an understanding of job costing and margin management. Contractor and vendor management experience is required. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, Project, One-Note and Teams) Experience working for a global organization with cross cultural interaction is strongly preferred. Key Attributes: Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders is required. Ability to problem-solve with any project participant and arrive at effective, amicable resolutions, required. Travel: Must be able and willing to travel up to 15% domestically and abroad for training and visiting other company locations. Schedule: Must be able and willing to work a flexible schedule for emergencies and to attend in-person meetings and conference calls outside of normal business hours. The incumbent can flex working hours to accommodate. Working Environment This position will be based in a temporary structure on or near a construction site until the permanent office is built in 2026. The final work environment will be at a 24/7 manufacturing operation. This position is in support of manufacturing and requires working in a production environment around chemicals. The manufacturing facility will be a state of the art in terms of automation and being temperature and humidity controlled. This will be a clean and comfortable environment due to the nature of the products being produced. Work will require standing and walking for up to 80% of the time. Lighting and temperature are controlled and adequate. You may be required to lift up to 35 pounds and/or apply force necessary to push, pull, or otherwise move objects. This position has been identified as safety sensitive and involves operating heavy equipment and frequent exposure to chemicals and moving mechanical parts in a construction and manufacturing environment.
