Research Associate position (CIHR-funded) in the laboratory of Jacques Archambault (Department of Microbiology/Immunology). Our laboratory focuses on the molecular biology of papillomaviruses and polyomaviruses. The project(s) to be undertaken will investigate the roles of newly discovered host factors in the replication of these viruses. Position Summary: 1. Design, plan and conduct biochemical and cell culture experiments (transfection), including data analysis with minimal or no supervision. 2. Design and conduct high-throughput confocal microscopy experiments using immunofluorescence to investigate the characteristics of individual cells (single-cell analysis). 3. Take charge of the daily working of the laboratory. 4. Prepare written reports and presentations of conducted work. 5. May provide technical guidance and training to other research staff, including Undergraduate/Graduate Student Research Assistants and Technicians, in the execution of tasks related to research projects. 6. Performs various administrative tasks related to the project. Education and Experience: The ideal candidate has a biomedical education with a Ph D. and is well-versed in routine molecular and cellular biology, basic biochemistry and proteomics, cell culture (cell lines and primary cells), and confocal microscopy. As most of our experiments are conducted in transfected cells, experience in virus manipulation and infection is NOT required Other Qualifications: 1. Very strong lab organizational skills and a self-driven and collaborative approach to science is essential. 2. The candidate should have excellent communication skills and be able to work both independently and with other team members. 3. The candidate should be an excellent scientific writer, as a significant part of the work will involve the independent writing and submission of original research articles.
