GENERAL DESCRIPTION: We are seeking an Environmental Engineer who is self-motivated, safety-focused, energetic, and committed to supporting our operations while delivering value through our core principles. A willingness to travel as needed across Canada is essential. This position will have a dual focus. First, you will be responsible for monitoring environmental compliance at our landfills, transfer stations, material recovery, and waste collection vehicle maintenance facilities across Canada. Second, you will collaborate with our engineering team on a range of projects, including environmental studies, facility expansions, approval applications, design and construction of landfill gas and leachate management systems, and various waste management construction initiatives. A key aspect of this role will involve leading projects related to leachate management and landfill gas utilization, aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow and expand their role and responsibilities at Waste Connections. Reporting to the Canadian Region Engineering Manager, the Environmental Engineer will be based in Woodbridge, Ontario but will be required to travel to our facilities from Québec to British Columbia. As an Environmental Engineer with us, the minimum responsibilities are: • Conduct environmental compliance inspections and audits at our Canada-wide solid waste transfer stations, material recovery facilities, hauling facilities, and landfill sites. • Provide support to our facility managers to solve operational, design, and compliance challenges. • Further develop expertise in the area of landfill gas utilization, and leachate management and treatment. • Provide direction and support to external engineering consultants and contractors as it relates to various planning, design and construction projects. • Assist with environmental permit and approval applications. • Review monitoring, construction, and operating reports. • Help develop and implement safety, emergency, spill, stormwater, and other site operating plans. • Assist with the preparation and review of facility design and development plans, develop cost estimates and evaluate engineering proposals and specifications. • Maintain records and information databases. • Meet with regulatory agencies as needed. • Represent the company at conferences, waste management association, and community events. WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU: • Bachelor of Applied Science or Engineering Degree • Registered Professional Engineer, or working toward this designation (Engineer in Training) • Minimum of five years professional experience working in North America • Experience in waste engineering, construction or environmental consulting • Experience with Canadian Environmental Laws and Regulations would be beneficial • Experience preparing engineering documents, reports or regulatory applications would be beneficial • Field experience in construction oversight, fieldwork or environmental monitoring programs would be beneficial • Ability to travel both in and out of province as required • Excellent interpersonal, communication and report writing skills • Valid Provincial Driver License • Bilingual would be beneficial (English/French), but not a pre-requisite • Ability to successfully complete all pre-employment requirements WHAT YOU’LL GET FROM US: • Competitive Wages • Retirement Plan with company match • Benefits; Medical, Dental, Vision • Perks, perks, perks!
