As a valued member of our recreation team, you will assume ultimate responsibility for providing high quality care while maintaining a safe and healthy environment for residents and staff. Reporting to the Administrator, you will enhance the quality journey of our residents. Available opportunity: Full-time, non-union. What you’ll be doing: Plan, organize, direct, and supervise the department program which includes recreational, restorative care, pastoral care, social work, music therapist and volunteers. Implement and evaluate programs relating to the physical, emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual needs of the residents. Coordinate activities with those of other departments and inform administration of departmental activities, needs and problems. Recruits, provide orientation and maintain continuous learning opportunities. Maintains staff schedules; revises job descriptions and job routines as needed. Participates in ITDC and divisional teams such as QI, BSO, RAI-MDS, infection control, palliative care, emergency preparedness, ethics, peer group, safety group and LTC accreditation. Operates documentation and training applications, including Activity Pro, Point Click Care, and other software applications. Procures regular Activation department and special program supplies to meet operational budgets; and process petty cash receipts. Develop departmental goals and objectives. Actively participate in program delivery. MDS experience an asset. What you bring: Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology or other related field from a community college or university required. Knowledge of the concepts of Activation, Dementia Care and Therapeutic Techniques, Holistic care, Restorative care, Gentle Persuasive Approach, Montessori-based programming and event planning. Experience in planning, developing and evaluating the effectiveness of group and one-one programming for a diverse population of cognitive and physically impaired aging adults using a resident-centered care approach. Experience or knowledge in recruitment, selection, orientation, placement and supervision of volunteers required. Minimum one-year supervisory experience in a long term care an asset. At least one year of experience with seniors in an organized program or one year of experience with persons in a health care setting required. Knowledge of community resources, program development, MOHLTC standards. Sufficient knowledge and experience to coordinate religious services and spiritual care in a multi-faith setting required. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and have a command of the English language. Ability to work independently and complete assignments in a timely manner.
