About the Role
A Thinking Ape is seeking an Intermediate 2D Game Artist to craft visually compelling, high-quality game art content for Party in My Dorm, a social strategy mobile game with a college theme. In this role, you’ll take ownership of game event art production from ideation to final delivery, while supporting broader creative initiatives and contributing to the game’s continued success alongside a cross-functional team.
This position is ideal for an artist with strong communication and time management skills who is excited to work with a team that values innovation, creativity, and data-informed decision making. An interest in mobile games, pop culture trends, and fashion are also a huge plus.
What You'll Do
Create reference materials, concept art, and 2D art assets for game events, content updates, and features.
Prepare and present event concepts to an internal team of cross-functional stakeholders, using player feedback, event performance data, and research into pop culture trends to guide creative choices.
Work closely with the Creative team, Game Design, Community, and Product teams to ensure alignment with creative briefs and the broader game vision throughout production.
Provide feedback to outsourcing partners and apply final polish on incoming assets, ensuring that final deliverables meet all quality and style standards.
Support the Art Lead by identifying improvements to team processes, assisting with documentation, and providing constructive feedback within the internal art team.
What We’re Looking For
A 2D art portfolio that demonstrates creativity, versatility, and strong art fundamentals—particularly human anatomy, character design, and colour theory—and which contains work relevant to mobile game development.
Experience creating 2D game art assets, ideally as part of a live-ops or mobile studio environment.
Advanced skills working in Adobe Photoshop.
Advanced time management skills, with the ability to plan ahead, manage production risks, and deliver consistent results while ensuring production deadlines are met.
Strong communication skills, with experience collaborating in a cross-functional setting.
Extensive experience with giving and receiving constructive feedback, including utilizing feedback in order to achieve stronger results.
An interest in creating content informed by fashion and pop culture trends.

Location:
We’re working remotely; we’ll supply the equipment you need to do your work and to set up your work space. We have a flexible work schedule, three weeks of vacation, flexible sick days, and a generous health benefits package. We are open to candidates outside of Canada, with the requirement to work in the Pacific time zone. Compensation is determined by role, level and location.
For candidates located in British Columbia: At A Thinking Ape, we believe in fairness and pay transparency. That’s why we offer a set salary for each level, ensuring that all employees in the same role are compensated equitably—regardless of negotiation skills or background. This means you’ll know exactly what to expect from the start, without the stress of back-and-forth negotiations. For candidates located in British Columbia, the salary is CAD$70,000 for Junior Game Artist and $81,000 for Intermediate Game Artist reflecting our commitment to competitive and fair pay.
