Thanks for your interest in working on our team! Duties and Responsibilities Write component and sub system specifications to meet the MRS requirements for new product development projects. Test opto-electronic components and sub systems on a benchtop setup to verify compliance to vendor specifications and Adtran product requirements. Simulate optical components and systems. Design for Manufacture/Test/Quality/Reliability for optical sub-assemblies. Coordinate design with optical, mechanical, digital, firmware and software engineers to reach interface and packaging objectives. Perform reliability tests on optical components and modules (e.g. GR-468). Define the production tests to be performed on Adtran products at the contract-manufacturer location. Provide internal input into NPI, Quality, Operations and Sales. Identify and mitigate project risks. Other projects and assignments may result and be assigned to accommodate the changing needs of the department and the Company. Qualifications Basic Qualifications BS or MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or Physics. In-depth knowledge of Optical Communications Theory and Digital Communications Theory. Ability to design and develop optical modules and sub-assemblies. Testing expertise in optical modules and sub-assemblies. Test automation expertise. Proficiency in writing technical specifications. Ability to drive design teams, component vendors and manufacturing partners. Ability to generate high quality design documents (High level design and Unit Test). Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Self-motivated and can perform with minimal supervision. Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Travel is limited in this position (office commute and occasional vendor meetings). Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of Ethernet standards is preferred. Knowledge of optical component reliability and telecom performance standards such as Telcordia, IEC, and ITU are highly desirable.
