Your opportunity:
The Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences offers research-based BSc programs that focus on various aspects of behavior in humans and animals. Our mission is realized through the dedication and excellence of our engaged faculty and staff. Under the general direction of the Associate Professor, the Laboratory Technician plays a key role in supporting research activities by playing an active role in all experimental procedures, including behavioral testing, colony maintenance, genotyping, updating records, and data analysis.
The incumbent is responsible for supporting students by providing training and guidance, equipment orientation and maintenance, and general laboratory organization. The role also involves working with biology core facilities staff.

Working hours are: Monday - Friday, 8:45am-5:00pm onsite
Please note this is a term position until August 2026, with the possibility of renewal
Your responsibilities will include:
- Constructing proof of concept experiments to test different elements of the process
- Receiving, logging, and storing materials
- Applying established standards when determining priorities for lab deadlines based on timetables
- Aliquoting and labelling samples for determinations
- Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
- Updating and maintaining animal care standard operating procedure
- Paying close attention to occupational safety precautions
- Providing orientation to others on lab equipment, working procedures and practices
Essential Qualifications:
- College Certificate or equivalent or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
- Minimum one (1) year related lab experience
- Minimum one (1) year experience with mouse behavior analysis, genotyping and colony maintenance
- Experience working in a diverse team
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with all levels of staff and participants
- Experience related to record maintenance & logging
- Strong data organization and analytic skills
- Strong organizationaland time management skills are highly valued
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
