We are seeking a Controller at The Brick, who will work directly with the Vice President of Finance at our Corporate Office in Edmonton, Alberta. The Controller is a key finance business partner that engages with stakeholders across our entire organization and our senior leadership team to drive company performance.
As a designated accounting professional, you will have excellent working knowledge of accounting and financial reporting standards as well as operating performance measurement and financial budgeting, planning and analysis. Your proven leadership experience in accounting and finance roles is a key attribute. The ideal candidate will be an energetic, engaging and focus driven team member contributing to our strategy development, execution, monitoring, evaluation, communication and adjustment to support the success of The Brick.

Responsibilities
Financial and operational analysis
Under the VP Finance’s direction, serve as a key finance business partner, engaging with stakeholders across the organization, including members of the senior leadership team, to drive performance
Prepare monthly variance analysis, including the analysis of sales, profitability and KPI performance versus plan and the prior year
Assist in the development of operating budgets, financial forecasts, performance dashboards and KPIs for the Brick Division
Lead the monthly balance sheet review process, ensuring all required reconciliations are prepared on a timely basis
Take ownership of and update key operational models monthly including same store sales, store level P&Ls, and payroll models, along with overall expense management
Evaluate and monitor if strategies are achieving their intended impact and partner to implement action plans that improve performance
Accounting and financial reporting
Oversee multiple functions of corporate accounting including the review and approval of journal entries related to various parts of the business such as store operations, merchandising, advertising and franchise
Manage overall payroll accounting, accounts payables, and employee expense claims
Other accountabilities
Lead, develop and coach a team of finance and accounting professionals to drive performance and outcomes
Identify and address opportunities to streamline financial processes using the company’s Oracle ERP system and MMHF
Work with external auditors for interim reviews and year end audits
Provide support for corporate accounting policy creation
Qualifications
CPA designation required
10+ years of experience
Strong sense of urgency and effective organization and planning skills
People management and development expertise
Strong negotiating skills and a talent for adjusting messaging to varied vendors and stakeholders
Prior experience managing large and diverse teams
Ability to prioritize, manage deadlines, make decisions and problem solve
Strong planning, analytical, and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively on multiple projects simultaneously, with strong attention to detail
