POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Coordinator – Conventions & Visitor Services, and the technical direction of the Senior Travel Counsellor, provides information on the City to visitors in a tactful and courteous manner.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides information relating to the city to visitors and tourists
Processes the tourist mail on a daily basis
Prepares bulk information kits and individual VIP kits as required
Records bulk literature upon arrival and advises supervisor of same
Records and registers visitors on the visitor registration system
Performs good housekeeping practices in Centre and storage areas
Maintains daily inventory of all brochures pertaining to Thunder Bay and the region.
Assists in keying of data entry for the section
Assists cruise ship passengers at the dockside visitors centre at the Pool 6 site
Conducts interpretive talks to visitors relating to subjects such as, but not limited to, Terry Fox, Lake Supervisor, and other local history
Attending scheduled events outside the visitor centre when required Performs such other related duties as may be assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
Must be a student registered with a college or university and must be returning to school in the fall
Skills & Abilities:
Superior customer service skills and ability to deal with the public and staff in a courteous and tactful manner
Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writin
Must be able to work with minimal supervision
Must be highly motivated and be able to work well in a team environment
Proficient in the use of computers and current related software (Word, Excel)
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Required to wear a departmental uniform
Must be willing to work shift work
