The PDRI Office in the Office of GC, People & Culture is currently seeking a Full-time Limited Term Senior Consultant for approximately 48 months.
The Senior Consultant, Workplace Investigations, is a member of the Office of Protected Disclosure & Research Integrity (PDRI) and Human Rights and reports to the Director, Operations. The Senior Consultant, Workplace Investigations is responsible for leading and supporting high profile and/or complex workplace investigations (for example, harassment complaints, fraud, violence in the workplace etc.). This position provides expert counsel to the University community and works collaboratively with PDRI Advisor, Human Resources, and internal and external legal counsel.
The primary purpose of this position is to lead and support high profile and/or complex workplace investigations. This position also provides expert advice to Human Resources on investigation strategies. This position exercises considerable independent discretion and is responsible for high-quality workplace investigations. Key focus of efforts will include drafting investigation terms of reference, leading managers through the investigation process, drafting reports and communicating findings to management.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Provide expert recommendations/solutions related workplace investigations.
- Identify and develop required policies, procedures, and documentation related to the support staff group.
- Lead and implement program changes across the University including education and communication initiatives to the various faculties and departments.
- Provide credible expert advice and consultation, education and support to the team as well as the extended team of Human Resources, staff, and senior leaders on workplace investigation best practices.
- Collaborate with related University departments to ensure best practices in workplace investigations are followed.
- Periodically survey industry and/or market on a national level to identify emerging trends and provide recommendations as necessary.
- Foster and maintain positive and effective problem-solving relationships with the staff groups and union officials that reflects the university's commitment to a positive, interest-based, and collaborative labour relations environment.
- Work with PDRI colleagues, Human Resources, Legal Services, employees, and union officials to thoroughly investigate workplace issues, including but not limited to harassment, bullying, theft, fraud, human rights violations and other issues that impact the workplace.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of educational content and communication tools in a variety of mediums, including the facilitation of orientation and training for managers.
- Responsible for staying abreast of related legislation and jurisprudence in order to act as an expert resource to PDRI and Human Rights Office, Employee & Labour Relations, Human Resources and the university as a whole and ensure prompt and accurate service delivery.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Requires knowledge of best practices in workplace investigations.
- Requires experience in analyzing workplace issues; formulating workplace investigation strategies; conducting interviews with complaints and respondents; preparing reports; and providing comprehensive advice to clients and management on conducting investigations.
- University degree in Industrial Relations, Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
- 7-10 years of related progressive experience with demonstrated labour relations knowledge and conflict management skills.
- 5+ years experience conducting workplace investigations.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to be a collaborative team member and a service delivery focus.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and support the implementation of new programs and policies (including project management) with ongoing evaluation.
- Strong verbal and written skills.
- Demonstrated group facilitation skills, and ability to help groups reach a consensus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work well under pressure with minimal supervision.
