The Department of Surgery in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for an Orthopaedic Research Coordinator. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 6 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Academic Operations Manager, and works closely with Orthopaedic Faculty at the South Health Campus (SHC) Hospital. Research projects in which the coordinator is involved with may include more than one member of the Orthopaedic Team at SHC as well as provincial and national collaborators.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Coordinate perilunate projects under the direction of a primary Orthopaedic Surgeon at SHC, Section of Orthopaedic Surgery
- Liase with provincial and national collaborators to meet study endpoints
- Support perilunate projects (Data acquisition, patient recruitment, and statistical analysis) at provincial and national sites at the direction of the study supervisors
- Collaborate with principal investigators including providing data, editing draft manuscripts, and collation of research material
- Will also manage correspondence with prospective journals
- Participate in the screening and enrolling eligible patients into perilunate research trials
- Obtain informed consent, recruiting patients, and ensuring appropriate and timely follow-up for research studies
- Enroll patients encompasses
- consenting patients
- assisting in scheduling follow-up appointments and communicating patient usual care needs as well as study requirements at each visit
- communicating with enrolled patients via telephone to assess their health status
- Maintain screening log and enrollment log
- Confidential research data development and management
- Collaborate with the Research Portfolio
- Complete research grant applications including to local, regional, provincial, national, and international funding agencies as appropriate
- Assist with manuscript preparation for publication
- Help produce annual reports of Orthopaedic Oncology including a summary of ongoing research activities. These will be provided to the Head of the Section of Orthopaedics and to the Head of the Department of Surgery
- Liaise with the Office of Surgical Research, Department of Surgery
- Collaborate with the Research Portfolio, Section of Orthopaedic Surgery. Liaise with the McCaig Institute for Bone and Joint Health
- Report adverse events to the CREB of the University of Calgary, as appropriate
- Responsible for processing all PeopleSoft expenses including Non-Employee Payment Form requests for research members
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree required, areas of Science, Kinesiology or Nursing preferred
- Research Experience preferred
- Certification in an accredited research course an asset
- 2-5 years of experience in health related fields
- A combination of education, training and experience may be considered
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Precise documentation skills
- Self-directed, enthusiastic and honest in the performance of duties
- Ability to time manage and determine priorities
- Knowledge of the Conjoint Research and Ethics Board and IRISS (annual updates, reporting of adverse events)
- Proficiency in computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Power-point, Outlook; SPSS statistical software)
- Statistical knowledge an asset
- Excellent communication, team and client service skills
- Demonstrated abilities in organization and communication are a must with the ability to prioritize large volumes of work
- Knowledge of University of Calgary policies and financial systems (ie, PeopleSoft) an asset
