The Dean's Office - Arts within the Faculty of Arts is currently seeking a Full-time Staff Limited Term Research Specialist for approximately 1 year.
This position supports research activities in the Faculty of Arts via research communications, research data collection and analysis, as well as support for research award nominations.
The position is a full-time appointment for 12 months, covering a parental leave. The Specialist will work regular business hours, with the occasional exception for events held outside of business hours. A combination of work from home and on campus work is possible, though on campus work and in-person meetings will be required. The position is part of the AUPE Bargaining Unit and reports to the Senior Research Advisor.
Within the Faculty of Arts the Specialist will work closely with the Research Team and Arts Communications Team; they will also liaise with other units and groups on campus as they relate to awards (Research Services) and data collection and analysis (VPRO and research data community of practice).
The incumbent consistently encounters complex tasks and issues and must communicate frequently with academic and non-academic staff and other partners across the university with professionalism and a high degree of independent judgment and decision-making. This position requires strong collaboration, partnership building, as well as sound judgment and decision-making skills.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Lead data collection on research and creation activities across the Faculty of Arts, including funding, scholarly and research creation outputs, research clusters and themes as they relate to Faculty and University priorities, and transdisciplinary scholarship across faculty.
- Work with Snr Research Advisor and senior leadership team on all requests pertaining to research data collection, analysis and presentation/visualization.
- Collect and curate information for and develop quarterly Celebration Chronicle, which promotes the successes of Arts' scholars via collecting information about awards, interviews with award winners, creating additional content that relates to research awards ecosystem, and which supports development of research awards culture in Arts.
- Work with Snr Research Advisor, ADR, and Awards Committee on identifying awards nominees.
- Work with Snr Research Advisor on planning and development of nomination dossiers for institutional, provincial, national and international awards.
- Support internal research communications through working with Snr Research Advisor and Arts Communications Team on identifying and providing content for research stories to be showcased on Arts website.
- Sharing information about different research events that take place in Arts, this includes creating online content, promotion, and maintaining registration.
- Develop and maintain online resources for Arts researchers (SharePoint).
- Advise on and lead planning for research-related events (e.g., research workshops, faculty development initiatives, events related to Arts strategic priorities).
- Support postdoctoral scholars in Arts through development activities (e.g., creating suite of workshops and development events, postdoc research roundtables).
- Support implementation of Faculty of Arts strategic plan with Associate Deans Research and Senior Research Advisor.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- A post-secondary graduate degree is required in relevant domains (i.e., a program with a strong emphasis on research methods).
- A minimum of 5 years experience in a university research setting is required.
- Excellent time management and project coordination skills with the ability to work on multiple and diverse research projects concurrently.
- Demonstrated excellence with technical, verbal, and written communication.
- High degree of judgment, discretion, and creativity are required.
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are required.
- Proven ability to work independently in a team environment, with minimal supervision is critical.
- Ability and confidence to independently lead initiatives with minimal supervision and to work collaboratively with others on campus.
- Experience with user-centered design and development of educational tools and resources is an asset.
- Knowledge/Understanding of the University's culture, policies, values, and practices is preferred.
- Competence with survey methods (Qualtrics, etc.) is an asset.
