The Division of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre (PMCC) and the Sprott Department of Surgery at University Health Network (UHN) are inviting applications for the position of attending Cardiovascular Surgeon, with a focus on mitral valve surgery. Successful applicants will hold, or be eligible for an academic rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in the Department of Surgery, Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. The effective date of this appointment is flexible, with a tentative target of July 1, 2026.
The successful candidate must have broad experience in all aspects of adult cardiac surgery with a focused expertise in the surgical care of mitral valve disease, including complex mitral valve reconstruction, and will carry on the tradition of excellence in valve surgery at UHN. Expertise in minimally invasive approaches, in particular robotic cardiac surgery, is required. In addition to a requisite track record of exemplary clinical results, the applicant should be a strong academic surgeon with an interest in innovating and advancing the field of mitral valve surgery.
Duties will include all aspects of clinical care for a full-time adult cardiac surgeon, education of cardiac surgery residents and fellows, and expansion of the research and scholarly activities of the mitral valve program. Robust opportunities exist to enhance the existing research portfolio through collaboration with an array of clinicians and researchers within the PMCC, including the PMCC Clinical Trials Unit, PMCC Biobank, and PMCC AI Team, the Robotics Program in the Sprott Department of Surgery at UHN, and across the University of Toronto.
The successful candidate must possess strong leadership skills and a track record of scholarly activity. The appointment at UHN would be for a Surgeon Investigator position, whereby the candidate would establish an independent research program in their area of interest. The candidate must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

It is one of Canada’s largest and leading clinical and research hospitals. UHN is an academic institution affiliated with the University of Toronto and is recognized internationally for excellence in patient care, innovation, research, and education. The Division of Cardiovascular Surgery is comprised of 8 full-time clinical faculty members. It offers the entire breadth of cardiac surgery, including reconstructive valve surgery, aortic surgery, advanced heart failure and adult congenital surgery, and cardiac transplantation.
The salary range will be $700,000 – $800,000 per year, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
