Reporting to the Director and working closely with office staff, the Senior Financial Officer is responsible for overseeing the financial management of multiple budgets that include strategic planning, analysis and forecasting. The incumbent performs a variety of financial functions in the areas of planning and budgeting, and complex financial analyses and financial modeling on a variety of projects. The Senior Financial Officer works collaboratively with the departments within the Principal’s portfolio on various financial matters and special projects, and provides a wide range of financial services to senior administrators and staff in the Office of the Vice-President and Principal. The incumbent will work closely with various stakeholders to perform a wide range of financial and administrative functions, including but not limited to, preparing annual budgets, forecast, long-range plans, financial reports, , financial transactions and reconciliations along with direct supervision of a business officer.

Your responsibilities will include:
- Forecasting, planning and monitoring various departments’ budgets with multiple sources of revenue and/or recoveries to ensure expenditures remain within budgeted allocations
- Overseeing the financial management of budgets that include strategic planning, analysis and forecasting
- Advising academic administrators and staff on accounting practices and University financial policies and procedures
- Analyzing complex statistical reports and/or financial information for management decision-making
- Performing complex financial data modeling and analysis
- Liaising with internal contacts to resolve accounting, payroll and/or HRIS processing issues
- Keeping well-informed on changes to policies, procedures, collective agreements, and applicable legislated requirements
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting or acceptable combination of education and experience. CPA designation or working towards a designation is preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of recent and relevant experience conducting complex financial analysis, planning and forecasting for multiple budgets and departments.
- Direct supervision experience is required.
- Experience in complex budgeting and analysis, and interpreting and applying policies and procedures, processing financial transactions, generating financial reports from a financial system, reconciling financial information and process improvement.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of university budget process, procurement policies and financial and administrative policies.
- Demonstrated experience with complex reporting and use of HRIS and FIS, or equivalent systems, is required.
- Demonstrated ability to: apply accounting and budgeting knowledge to resolve financial matters effectively and ability to communicate financial information to individuals with little financial expertise; prepare financial reports and present information in a manner that clearly conveys information to leaders and; determine financial impact of both financial and non-financial information.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement and tact; to work independently with a high degree of initiative, as well as the ability to work collaboratively.
- Strong computer skills with a high level of proficiency in spreadsheet applications and a sound knowledge of word processing software, Excel and Word required.
- Superior time management skills, ability to prioritize and bring the appropriate sense of urgency to situations and attentive to detail and accuracy; excellent communication (written and verbal) interpersonal and organizational skills.
